Both deserve respect. But if we think a little more about it, we see that people like Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Larry Page, Mark and others are at one side as entrepreneurs who started with certain vision to make a difference to the world whe...reas people like Ritchie, Shockley (transistor inventor) and others were at another side as salaried professionals in cozy environments paid by organizations like Bell Labs.
Bill Gates made MS-DOS as the industry standard and Ritchie made C as the industry std but the way they achieved it was different. Bill had to work 20 hrs a day, take lot of risks and single handedly convince IBM to accept it whereas Ritchie came up with C after his PhD and his employer ensured that it becomes an industry standard using its muscle power.
Ritchie used his IQ to give us C but Bill Gates/Steve Jobs used their "IQ + Risk taking ability + Perseverence + hard work" to give us Apple and Microsoft, directly employment to lakhs of people, inspiration to our generation..
Professionals in VoIP know the contribution of Rosenberg who is considered the father of SIP which has revolutionized the telecom industry. Rosenberg is a professional paid by MNCs like Cisco to do his job and he did it well. His SIP is used in thousands of products these days. So I dont see much difference between Rosenberg and Ritchie. However, I have respect for all of them. But I will not find it surprising if somone respects Larry Page more than Rosenberg..
