Good luck for the new prince of UP.

Akhilesh Yadav, son of a former CM.
Rahul Gandhi, son of a former PM.
Both are instances of nepotism. In the last few months, both worked hard campaigning in hundreds of towns.
Akhilesh also visited homes of poor but not with a herd of SPG around him and that might have helped him connect with the people.
Akhilesh spoke of aspirations instead of defaming rivals. People want to see how you can construct them a future and are not interested in seeing how you destroy your rivals and tear down their manifesto papers.
Akhilesh did not call his Indian political opponents as "outsiders" (Rahul called Uma an outsider).
Akhilesh did not call his UP people 'beggars who went begging for jobs to Maharashtra'.
Akhilesh did not bring his sister, mother and schoolgoing nephews to emotionally campaign for his party.
Finally, Akhilesh won..
Maybe if Rahul and his family had stayed back in Delhi, they would have retained their little leftover respect and would have have won more seats..
How is this junior Yadav going to fare in his political career, only time will tell. But he seems to have got his basics right..

A forgotten Scientist in India Dr. Hargobind Khorana

Dr. Hargobind Khorana  -Everyone has mugged up this name in childhood but nobody went into details. For all the Indians this name was just a part of general knowledge question bank and never came out of that. Even many of us did not know that he was alive or dead before his death news at November 9, 2011.
Dr. Hargobind Khorana got the Nobel Prize in the field of Medicine or Physiology (shared with R. W. Holley and M. Nirenberg) in 1968 at the age of 45 for research that helped to show how the nucleotides in nucleic acids, which carry the genetic code of the cell, control the cell's synthesis of proteins.
Actually this is our old tradition that whenever world recognized any Indian then only we recognized that person. Not to name but our history is full of such instances. This is surprising that Dr. Hargobind Khorana who became the head of organic department of research council at University of British Columbia in 1952, when he came back to India before getting noble prize dint gets suitable better options for research work and went back to US. This was one of the heart-rending examples of Brain Drain. India has given him Padma Vibhushan, highest Presidential Award in 1969 after achieving Noble Prize.
He continued his research work after getting Noble Prize and discovered the process of linking the pieces of DNA together using polymerase and ligase enzymes to form the first synthetic gene. This discovery was such an important and given new directions to modern genetic engineering that he could have got again Noble Prize for this. These custom-designed pieces of artificial genes are widely used in biology labs for sequencing, cloning and engineering new plants and animals.
A brief biography:
He was born at Raipur Panjab on January 9th 1922 in Sikh family. He got his BSc in 1943 and MSc in 1945 from Punjab University, Lahore in 1943. After achieving Government of India Fellowship in 1945 Dr. Hargobind Khorana went foreign for his Phd at University of Liverpool.
Important Awards:
•Merck Award from Chemical Institute of Canada;
•Nobel Prize for Medicine or Physiology (shared with R. W. Holley and M. Nirenberg);
•American Academy of Achievement Award, Philadelphia, PA;
•Padma Vibhushan Presidential Award, India;
•J. C. Bose Medal, Bose Institute, Calcutta, India;
•Willard Gibbs Medal of the Chicago Section of the Amer. Chem. Society;
•National Medal of Science;
•M.I.T. School of Science Distinguished Service Award.
Dr. Hargobind Khorana died on November 9, 2011 in Concord, Massachusetts at the aged 89.

EVER SEEN AN ICEBERG FROM TOP TO BOTTOM..?

This is really a beautiful photo..
Now you know why the Titanic sank. This photograph came from a Rig manager for Global Marine Drilling in St. John, Newfoundland.
They actually have to divert the path of these things away from the rig by towing them with ships. In this particular case the water was calm and the sun was almost directly overhead so that t...he diver was able to get into the water and click this picture..
They estimated the weight at 300,000,000 tons..

There’s a minute with 61 seconds in it 2 times every year.

This year (2012) is obviously a leap year which means that woman have the task of asking their partner to marry them. But this leap year something else is happening, a leap second.
Leap seconds are used to keep up with the earths rotation because, believe it or not our atomic clocks from the 1950′s are more precise than earths rotation.
As the Earth spins on its axis there are small deviations which means that some days end up being longer than others. Atomic clocks don’t precisely match actual earth time because our orbit tends to be irregular.
What would happen if we don’t have leap seconds? Well, in a few years we would find ourselves a few seconds out of sync and in a few hundred years we’d be approximately a minute out. But after several hundred thousand years we would find ourselves eating lunch at midnight.
The leap second will be implemented on the 30th of June at midnight, it will take two seconds to move from June to July — instead of one.
So the question is, one will you do with that extra second?

Lal Bahadur Shastri

Lal Bahadur Shastri doing office work in Airplane. Along with him is his wife, Lalita Devi.
Most of us would have studied about Shastri in our school textbooks in which we are taught that he is initially a freedom fighter, then becomes prime minister after Nehru, and later dies in Tashkent. Thats all we know. So, let me share some interesting facts about him here..
October 2nd. Whose birthday is it? Yeah correct. Also, it is Shastri’s birthday on same day and most of us dont even know it, let alone celebrate.
If you combine dedication, ethics, honesty, integrity, responsibility, & austerity, you get Shastri!! The above photo is the best example to show his dedication towards his job. Can we think of today’s politician doing his job in flight like this? Forget flight, do they do their jobs with this much of dedication even in their office?
Want to see how our politicians work? Watch this 1 min clip
Talking about integrity & responsibility.
There was a major railway accident sometime in 1950s. Being the railway minister at that time, he took moral responsibility and offered his resignation (However, Nehru did not accept it). That shows the moral standards he maintained.
Talking about honesty and ethics.
During freedom struggle, when he was jailed by the British, he was informed that his daughter was sick. So he asked for 15 days permission and was granted on the condition that he will not participate in freedom struggle in these 15 days. By the time he reached his home, his daughter had died. After performing the funeral for 3 days, he immediately returned back to jail inspite of having 12 more days of freedom from jail!!
Similarly, one day, while in jail, he was told that his son was sick and this time he got a permission of 7 days of leave from jail. He stayed with his son all the 7 days. The son had still not recovered, but Shastri went back to jail to keep up his word!! (Fortunately, the son survived)
Talking about austerity.
He is popularly called “The politician who made no money”. He was born in a poor family, he lived his life in simplicity and austerity. And he died as a poor man. He really knew what austerity meant.
These are the kind of leaders we need today who can demonstrate what real austerity means. Not by someone who boards a train for the first time in his life at the age of 38, and spends a night in huts to prove that he is asture. We need austerity lessons from people who have really experienced poverty so that they understand what real poverty means. Not by someone who has zillions in swiss banks and talks about eradicating poverty here.
